Back in the Swing

Hi
It has been a while between blog postings. When I am working I find it hard to relax and be creative enough to sit and actually have fun. So this term I have put aside one full day every week to simply sew. First week back and I am in full swing. I just finished an order for another monkey. This one is being sent off to Brisbane in the next few days. He is a real cutey. I am always experimenting with different fabrics to use and ways of putting the items together that provide the strength in the seams as well as a great overall appearance.Anyway, this is the boy......

Olive Tree Market

Well I finally made my debut at the Olive Tree Market in March 2010. For my first market it was lots of fun and I met some really nice people who were really complimentary about my fabrics and products. Being my first market I was a little unsure of what would sell and what wouldn’t; so I aimed at the middle and made a little of a number of things. My monkeys were a big hit selling out pretty early as were my fabric bunnies. Have a look at these couple of photographs.

All in all it was a really great day. Whew but exhausting.
In April I held my second market and felt a lot more comfortable with how things would go. Whether it was the fact that it was Easter Saturday and people were desperate for last minute pressies or not I had a really successful day. I took a few orders on the day and have been buoyed up by my success.

I have been madly sewing for the past week, coming up with some new designs and new additions to my stall. I probably need to focus a bit more on the stall presentation and am madly chasing around to get hold of some wooden fruit crates. Very rare I am finding out. I might try to hit the antique/second hand markets this week to try and snit some out. Failing that, I might have to go down the track of stacking some wicker baskets to give me some height and interest on the stall.

Anyhoo, I am currently looking into starting a course on screen printing for beginners. I really want to try designing my own fabrics in a limited way. I can’t believe how many ideas I have racing through my head. I am making pinwheels out of beautiful scrapbooking paper, making felt crowns, making monkeys, making and designing fabric dolls and feisty pirates and the list goes on. I have about six projects on the go at the moment and more in line. Not enough time.
